Dungy Returns For Another Season

Tony Dungy, head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, has decided to coach the team another year instead of retiring. There were earlier speculation about Dungy retiring after the Colts' season was done because of the fact that his family had moved back to Tampa. Dungy shot down those speculations and rumors and said that he would speak with his family and make a decision from there. The owner of the Colts, Jim Irsay, was ready to do anything for Dungy so that he can stay. He came up with some ideas so Dungy can coach the team and see his family more, including letting Dungy use his private jet to go back and forth to Tampa. Dungy said that was a factor in him staying for another year. The Colts already had Dungy's successor in the event Dungy called it quits. Jim Caldwell, an assistant head coach to Dungy with the Colts and a season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Dungy was there, was picked as Dungy's successor if he retired. Caldwell was already interviewed by several NFL teams for their head coaching vacancy but he turned all of them down to stay with the Colts. Dungy is the first black head coach to win a Super Bowl, winning it last season with the Colts. Dungy's record with the Colts over his six seasons is an impressive 73-23, which is the second highest winning percentage for a coach with one team. Dungy also coached six successful seasons with the Buccaneers and compiled a 54-42 record while leading the Buccaneers to the NFC Championship game in 1999 and building an eventual Super Bowl championship team. Are the Colts fortunate to be having Dungy back? Would it have made a difference if Dungy left? How much longer will Dungy coach for?
