Gibbs Retires For Second Time

Joe Gibbs, head coach of the Washington Redskins, has retired for a second time as coach of the Redskins. Gibbs says a commitment to his family is the reason why he is retiring again, just like the first time. Gibbs was the Redskins coach from 1981 to 1992, winning three Super Bowls and six division titles. Gibbs won three Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks. Two of those Super Bowl came in strike shortened seasons. He retired after the 1992 season because he says that his kids were growing up without him. This time, he says he has to devote his time to his family. He has a three year old grandson who is going through chemotherapy right now. Gibbs had to go through a lot as a coach this year. The death of his star safety Sean Taylor made this season a very tough one for all of the players and Gibbs. He also had his starting quarterback, Jason Campbell, get injured for the rest of the season the game after Taylor's funeral. Veteran journeyman Todd Collins took over as the starting quarterback. It was his first start in the NFL since 1997. The Redskins just lost to the Seattle Seahawks 35-14 in the Wild Card round. Will the Redskins be good without Gibbs? Who will the Redskins hire as their next head coach?
