Santana Traded To Mets

Johan Santana, a two time Cy Young award winner, was traded to the New York Mets from the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday for four prospects. The Twins have been trying to trade Santana for a long time when the best deal became available. A number of sources have said that this was definitely not the best offer the Twins have received and that they may have just wanted to get rid of Santana soon. Santana was going to become a free agent after next season and the Twins wouldn't have had the money to re-sign him. Torii Hunter, their prominent center fielder for a long time, was also not retained by the Twins. He signed a five year deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. With this deal, the Mets now become the front runners to win the NL East and possibly the conference. They now have a front line dominating starter to go with pitchers like Pedro Martinez and John Maine. The Mets, two seasons ago, almost made it to the World Series, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. They almost made it to the playoffs again this past season, but they went into a deep slide in September and the Philadelphia Phillies became red hot and overtook the Mets for the division. Santana and the Mets have a small window to negotiate a new contract. It is believed that Santana will receive $150 million over six years, making him the highest paid pitcher in baseball. Will Santana's arrival help the Mets win a World Series in the near future, possibly this coming season? Are the Twins going to be setback a number of years by this deal?

its an interesting little deal, as it is very possible the twins could be looking like the oakland athletics soon and playing with young players.
however as the mets go does this actually catapult them to the top? one pitcher every 5 days doesnt guarantee anything, and i believe he has already reached his peak and will not necessarily be a 20 game winner again
